DISCUSSING MENTAL ILLNESS STIGMA AMONG PEOPLE OF COLOR
ANTHONY MAHON'S SENIOR CAPSTONE
This project tackles mental illness stigmas as it pertains to people of color. Nearly twenty people were interviewed about their firsthand or secondhand experiences with mental illness. Hours of audio content were collected and separated by topic into different Youtube videos. Each participant was asked about how specific things such as gender, race, and family dynamics impacted their own mental illness or that of a loved one. The purpose of this Capstone presentation is to create and/or continue a dialogue among people of color about mental illness.
HOW IT STARTED
A huge source of inspiration for this project was Kid Cudi.
Cudi's openness about his mental health struggles helped to spark #YouGoodMan, a social media trend that called for increased awareness of black men's mental health struggles.

Based off of the movement Cudi's dialogue started, I interviewed one of my friends about his struggles with depression for Chivomengro.
Discussing Anxiety With My Mom
My mother's battle with anxiety was a huge source of personal inspiration for this project. At first I didn't realize or understand what she was going through, so I wanted to educate myself about mental illness to develop a full awareness of her struggles.
Discussing Anxiety Part Two
This is a continuation of the discussion with my mother. Getting her personal perspective was especially important for this project because a lot of what she went through, I had no clue about up until her interview.
